The Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Warriors were made to be guardians of QinShiHuang's tomb. There were warriors chariots and horses. Researchers say that there are approximately 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots and 150 cavalry in total. Over 700,000 workers worked on the burial mound and the warriors.
They manufactured warriors by making separate arms, legs and torsos and then connecting them. Each face was made with a face mask and then more details were carved on. Real weapons were put into the pits but they have rusted and the paint n the warriors has also come off. Many researchers think that a lot of weapons were stolen. There are burns on the walls from the tomb raiders who stole the weapons. The burning destroyed the rafters on the ceiling which came down and crushed the warriors inside the pits.
Pit one: 230m long and 62m wide- 6,000 infantry
Pit two: cavalry and infantry- military guard
Pit three: command post- all high ranking officers
Pit four: empty
The Terracotta Warriors created a very big problem for the wealth of China. The cost of creating the warriors was very high and after QinShiHuang died the empire collapsed.
